History of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Martin Luther King, Jr. was a U.S. Baptist minister. He was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. He advocated using nonviolent means to end racial segregation and earned a doctorate in King’s Theology. In 1955, he helped organize the first major African American civil rights movement protests. He led peaceful protests in South America to stop the violence. He appealed to a strong speaker, King Christian, and the American ideology. He was able to establish the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1958 and was able to lead the March in Washington, USA, in 1963. In 1963, Byrd Rustin and Philip Randolph led a massive march for jobs and freedom in Washington. As a result, 250,000 people gathered outside Memorial Lincoln. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights leader in 1960 and was able to establish the Civil Rights Act in 1964. Illegal Declaration Discrimination Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1965 for the Public Housing Benefit and Employment and Voter Rights Act.
